Ruth Chris Waikiki

My husband and I decided 2 years ago that when dining out, we preferred ordering a variety of pupus (appetizers) rather than a regular 3 course meal.  We get filled up just the same and there’s more variety to try for the same price or less.  And of course, if you can make it for Happy Hour, it’s even better!  One of our favorite places to go for HH is Ruth Chris, Waikiki.  I know…we didn’t realize they had such a good happy hour either.  There are good HH drink prices and several pupus on the menu are half price and you still get the full portion.  We usually sit at the bar and started off with a Lychee Martini and a Margarita on the rocks.  Portions were good and the drinks had a nice kick.  For food, we ordered Oyster Rockefeller (The flaming oysters were fresh with a nice spinach stuffing topped with cheesy mornay sauce), Fried Calamari (Lightly batter fried with a nice Asian Chili sauce) and Escargot (If you like garlic – try this one.  Six escargot were covered with cheese and swimming in garlic herb butter).  There is also a complimentary cone of homemade potato chips – some pieces loaded with oil and a bit soggy – not my favorite…
Service was good. The bill - $40.

My First Blogging Attempt

I first heard about Blogs a few years ago when my husband mentioned that I should look into it. (or was it Podcasts?)   Anyway, it all seemed too complicated and I never really paid much attention.  Over the years, I’ve read quite a few good ones relating to things of interest to me.  I know I’m behind the times but I’m OK with that. I don’t tweet or twitter. I occasionally access facebook when I’ve been out of touch and want to check in to see how family and friends are doing.

For 2012, among other things, I wanted to start a blog / journal that would be interesting and fun.  It definitely had to be something that I would enjoy.  Well…I wasn’t born in the year of the pig for nothing…I do enjoy good eats!  There are all sorts of definitions for “Foodie” but the common theme seems to be someone who appreciates good food.  I hope to share with you information about great (and not so great) places to eat in our beautiful State of Hawaii.
